Work begins today on Ascension War, a full-length stageplay set in the Ascension universe. The play, by Digital Roar’s own Kevin Human, was one of six plays selected to participate in the 2010 WordBRIDGE Playwrights Laboratory.
WordBRIDGE is an interdisciplinary laboratory that “seeks to empower pre-professional playwrights to achieve the next level of craftsmanship through collaboration with seasoned professionals from around the world.” Over the years, WordBRIDGE has helped shape many scripts that have gone on to become successfully produced plays, and we hope that Ascension War will one day be counted among them.
Ascension War is a space opera. It takes us from the cellblocks of an interplanetary prison to the terrifyingly state-of-the-art laboratory of a brilliant scientist. It whisks us away to the space between life and death (or death and life) before depositing us on Earth and sending us to the moon. Yet beyond the adventure, it examines questions of science and humanity while navigating the bits of interstitial and amorphous space that bind us all together.
